Club Utopia. 8pm
Utopia is a Clubber’s paradise situated in Maytown. It was owned by Mackenzie.
Mackenzie climbed the podium.
DJ
Everyone make some noise for your one and only … Mackenzie.
The crowd cheered wildly.
Mackenzie
Tonight is a good night. I hope everyone’s having a good time.
The crowd cheered yes.
Mackenzie
Tonight’s sold out. So you know what that means.
Mackenzie
Someone gets to leave here with a free V.I.P ticket for a month.
The crowd cheered.
Mackenzie
Can you come to the stage?
She pointed to a woman and beckoned to her. She climbed the podium.
Mackenzie
What’s your name, beautiful girl?
She said her name was Iris.
Mackenzie
Like the goddess? Because you do have the body of a goddess.
Iris blushed hard and covered her face.
Mackenzie
Oh! Everybody we got a shy one here.
Mackenzie
Well, you look very stunning. For gracing my club with your stunning physique,
Mackenzie
You get a free V.I.P ticket for tonight.
Her mouth fell open and her eyes bulged. She screamed in delight.
Iris was speechless.
Mackenzie
you can say thank you.
Iris said she was very grateful.
Mackenzie
It’s alright sweetie. Keep looking like the goddess you are.
Linda walked up to her and whispered in her ear.
Linda
I’m sorry Madam. There is something you need to see.
Mackenzie
Can it wait ? I’m in the middle of something here.
Linda
No madam. I’m afraid it cannot wait.
Mackenzie
I'm sorry I have to take my leave now. Enjoy yourselves.
Mackenzie
The DJ would announce the lucky bastard.
Mackenzie shot a thumbs up to the DJ amidst cheers ringing from the crowd.
Mackenzie follows Linda to the office.
Before her office, a man intercepted her.
Man
You have a nice club. I’m glad to be here.
Mackenzie
Thanks. I expect you to be a regular.
She smiled as she teased him.
Man
Certainly, my wife is a huge clubber.
Mackenzie
Well that settles it. I’ll be seeing you around.
The man takes his leave. Mackenzie and Linda enter her office.
Mackenzie
Phew! I thought he will never stop talking.
Mackenzie
One more sentence, I would have shot him to shush him up.
Linda
Thank heaven it didn’t come to that.
Linda
I noticed there are discrepancies in the books Madam.
Mackenzie's face contorted into a frown.
Mackenzie
Are you trying to say someone’s stealing from me?
She asked, her voice tinged with a threatening tone.
Linda
It’s possible but highly unlikely.
Linda
Nobody’s crazy enough to steal from you.
That statement seemed to have a calming effect on Mackenzie.
Mackenzie
What did you find out?
Linda
The profits should be higher since Utopia has sold out since last year.
Linda
That’s not the case. I’m noticing some expenditures that make no meaning.
Mackenzie
What do you mean?
Mackenzie
Hand over the ledger to me.
Linda handed over the books in her hands to Mackenzie and stepped back.
Mackenzie pored over the records and pulled out a stack of receipts.
She realized that these expenditures were entered twice and it affected the books
Mackenzie
Some of the expenses were entered twice.
Mackenzie
Probably an honest mistake or someone is covering his or her tracks.
Linda shifted her weight uncomfortably and uttered
Linda
I’m confident it’s the former, Madam.
Mackenzie
Keep it quiet for now.
Mackenzie
Make the necessary corrections but if this occurs again, I need to know immediately.
Mackenzie's phone rang.
Mackenzie
This better be good, Richard.
Richard
The new consignment will be arriving in some days
Mackenzie
You always have the words to make a woman smile.
Richard
You flatter me. I’m just doing my job.
Mackenzie
You keep doing that. We shouldn’t be expecting any issues right?
Richard
Except God himself decides to rain on our parade.
Richard
Short of that, I can see nothing else going wrong.
Mackenzie
Keep your eyes peeled. You can’t always account for every scenario.
Richard
Life is what happens when you are making plans.
Mackenzie chuckled.
Mackenzie
I see someone has been brushing up.
Mackenzie dropped the call and was about to say something when
A waiter enters without knocking.
Mackenzie suddenly stood up with her face etched with rage.
Mackenzie
Are you out of your mind? Do you have a death wish?
The waiter stammered an apology.
Waiter
I’m …. I’m so… . sorry
Mackenzie blurted furiously.
Mackenzie
Well Speak then! Cat got your tongue?
The waiter fiddled with her fingers as she stammered .
Waiter
I’m sorry.. I’m…sorry, Madam. There is a situation in the V.I.P section.
Mackenzie
Are you going to keep me in the dark? Out with it.
Waiter
A customer was given a wrong order by a new waiter and he is insisting she be fired.
Mackenzie
What gives him the right to make such demands?
Waiter
He says he is a regular in the V.I.P and the customer is always right.
Mackenzie
We will see about that. I will be there in a minute.
She turned to Linda.
Mackenzie
Is there any other discrepancy that caught your eye in the books?
Linda stiffened with attention.
Linda
Not yet Madam. I believe there would still be more. If I can’t sort them out I will bring
Linda
them to your attention.
Linda
This is a common occurrence when different ledgers are being combined.
Mackenzie
Alright. Make sure you do that.
Mackenzie and the waiter sauntered to the V.I.P section while Linda secured her office.
